The Best Thing About Crossfit

The topic of Crossfit has the ability to divide a room like no other. Some people love it, some hate it, and the smart ones see everything with open eyes. They can spot the good and bad in everything and use it accordingly.

Regardless of which side of the fence you sit, you can’t deny some of Crossfit’s good points.

It has made exercise, and more importantly, lifting weights, more mainstream, and if you have read any of my blogs, or have spoken with me on the subject, you will know that I am a huge advocate of strength training.

I believe that strength training should be the cornerstone of any training program, regardless of your goal. So, as far as I am concerned, this is a definite positive.

But is it the best thing Crossfit offers? I don’t think so.

The one thing that I would love everyone to take from Crossfit is the mind-set that they create.

You see, for me, Crossfit has made exercise about improving one’s performance, instead of focussing on how many calories you burn in a given session. It’s about performance, rather than fat loss.

They ask you to push yourself harder, do a workout quicker, perform more reps, and to quite simply make yourself better.

Getting into the gym and lifting weights is one thing, but if you aren’t pushing yourself you may not be seeing the benefits that you time spent deserves. I see too many people going through the motions when they train, failing to train with any real intensity –they don’t push themselves.

There is a lot about Crossfit that I would disregard for the vast majority of trainees.

However, if I could extract the mind-set you see in most Crossfit boxes, make it into a little pill and give it to everyone who walked into others gyms across the land, then I would. It would save everyone a lot of time and frustration.

I firmly believe we all possess the ability to push ourselves, all it takes is a simple change in how we view our time in the gym, and change in our focus from fat loss to performance.

The results would undoubtedly come a lot quicker, not to mention that training itself would becomes a hell of a lot more enjoyable and satisfying. You will see quickly see yourself become stronger, fitter and faster, all by thinking a little differently and training HARD.

Push yourself and get stronger.
